The History Of Anointed Body of Christ Church

Our Beginning

In the beginning: The first organizational effort was made by a witnessing team from the Light of the World Christian Tabernacle International of Decatur, Georgia as a bible study in the home of Albert and Minnie Smith in April 1997. At that time the ministry would be given the name Light of the World Covington, Georgia as a vision given to the late Dr. Jimmie Lee Smith, Archbishop and presiding prelate of the Light of the World Interdenominational International Association. Archbishop Smith taught the first session and began with the first chapter of Acts.

Several people taught after that. The bible study group met every Friday night. On June 7, 1998, at 5:00 pm, the first public meeting was held at the Best Western White Columns Inn on Alcovy Road. Pastors Bobby and Pauline Sims were appointed to oversee the ministry and were presented to the congregation at this first service. The first members were Albert and Minnie Smith. The following families joined shortly afterwards; Angekita Sims, Renee’ Fisher, Beverly Rolingson, Pamela Warren, Theresa Trusty and Diane Smith. We began to hit the streets evangelizing every Saturday morning.

Our first Sunday morning Worship Service was held on Sunday, September 6, 1998; the message was delivered by Pastor Bobby Sims. The first radio broadcast was July 26, 1998 on WGFS at 7:45am and 3:00pm broadcasts. With a heart to “Build Families of Faith,” we began having third Sunday potluck fellowship on October 18, 1998, and have continued to date. The first baptism was October 10, 1998, and the first missionary trip to Jamaica was taken in April1999. Our first Evangelistic Revival was held February 16 – 18, 2000; the Late Elder George Kennedy was the presiding pastor.

New Beginnings

November 2001, The Lord imparted a new vision within the hearts of Pastors Bobby and Pauline Sims with instructions to separate and go to a place which He had prepared for the fulfillment of the vision. In obedience to the Lord and with the organizational help of Apostle George Cleare, Anointed Body of Christ Ministries (ABC) was established in February 2002. ABC held its first service on Sunday, February 3, 2002 at Under the Stars Banquet Center in Oxford, GA as a new church planted in Newton County, GA for the purpose of preaching, teaching, and living the Anointed Word of God for the fulfillment of the vision to “Build Families of Faith.” This was our mandate from the beginning and with God’s grace and the help of the Holy Spirit; we have and shall continue striving to keep to that charge. We are in awe of how we were favored with this location for a church within six months. God had a plan for us and by July 3, 2002, He had moved upon the heart of a man (Missionary Gus Garner) to give us favor, making it possible for us to purchase 34 Hemlock St, Porterdale, GA. This was the first church building Pastor Bob was led to when arriving in Newton County. Yes, Our God is AWESOME! He had shown Pastor Bob his end from the beginning. We understood why God had caused us to separate so that He could send us to Porterdale to pray for change to come to this town as well as pull down strongholds and principalities, thus fulfilling His Plan. On the first Sunday in July, we were so excited and thankful as we drove from Under the Stars to 34 Hemlock Street and entered the sanctuary singing, “We’ve Come This Far By Faith,” as Pastor Bob led a host of believers to the pool for our first baptism as ABC.

During the past twelve years, Prophetess Angikita Sims, Min. Renee’ Fisher, Min. Ulysses Lackey, Elder Theresa Trusty, Prophetess Monia Trusty, Pastor Hamilton Sims, Min. Helen Jackson Johnson, Min. Joseph Moseley, and Elder Roger Anthony have served as fivefold ministerial gifts to the body. Eight were licensed and three were ordained at ABC. Albert Smith, Jerry Wilson, Joseph Moseley, Willie Baskins, Jr., Mark Meadows, Willie Baskins, Sr., Austin Risbrook and Harry Moseley were ordained as Deacons. Many have given their lives to Christ, united in holy matrimony, and dedicated their children to the Lord during the past twelve years.

Our hearts were saddened when young Brandon Talley was suddenly taken away from us last year. We have also had to say goodbye to a few other members of our family during the past twelve years. They will forever remain in our hearts. We shall continue to move forward as God unveils His Good Plans to us! THANK YOU FATHER FOR THIRTEEN WONDERFUL YEARS!
